CONTROLLERS DEBRIEF

2010 has held many challenges both personally and the members of the
Broadmeadows Unit. The establishment of a new unit was an important task
which the unit undertook. The officers, trainers and assessors working with the
initial group of Whittlesea members who trained at the Broadmeadows Unit and
subsequently moved to the new Whittlesea establishment in late March. The
Whittlesea Unit has reached significant milestones such as initial operational
capability and advancing to training certification.

The March hailstorms were a major event for VICSES across the state with the
Broadmeadows unit supporting Essendon and Knox Units who had significant
RFA's. Broadmeadows reached its goal in out of area assistance and Incident
Management Support.

During the year more members have taken the opportunity to increase their skill
base in Incident Management, Command of Control and Staging Area
Management. We also maintained our course skills with members attending a
high percentage of training nights.

I see the Broadmeadows Unit maintaining their level of expertise within their
ERAS profile and creating a learning environment to continue the professional
standards that the service requires.
